Just a bit leaky :(

So we moved in yesterday. It was HOT and to our dismay, we discovered the windows in the front two rooms were nailed shut. Trev soon fixed this and we were soon enjoying a bit of a breeze. Next morning was the usual stormy change after the balmy night that this part of the world is famous for. Sitting in the kitchen enjoying my morning cuppa, I thought I could hear dripping that was a bit too loud to be outside but seeing as our bedroom window was open I assumed it was noise coming in so I went in to close it. That was when I saw the floor was wet. As was the curtains and the bed. When I pulled back the curtain and looked up, I saw that the top sash of the window had dropped down and a waterfall was pouring down the INSIDE of the window :(
The water was coming from the wall above the window and all I could do was put a container under the waterfall and wait for the rain to stop so we could safely check it out.
Firstly the gutter was hanging down a bit and spilling onto the verandah, and then the box gutter on the verandah that was running along the front wall of the house was overflowing because the down pipe was blocked. Trev's quick solution was to prop the house gutter up with some bits of timber and pull down the verandah down pipe which we discovered was blocked due to rust. Seeing as we intend on building a new verandah it doesn't seem logical to spend money on it.

A small amount of water came down the outside of the wall too.

Pretty self explanatory but because I love a chat, I'll over some commentary to go with them...
Here we have the left hand side of the kitchen. Complete with rusted out slow combustion stove that appears to be home to several creatures of the scratchy kind.

Right hand side of the kitchen. Notice the lovely dark brown laminate splash back and teeny sink. Has a lovely view of the garden!

Miss Ruby checking out the lounge. We were left this gorgeous Art Deco style wall unit which I love!

My fav room in the house - combined laundry bathroom. I call it the "bathdry" but was thinking is should change that due to the fact there is no bath. In here is a laundry trough, shower, toilet and washing machine provision. The floor is crooked and I fear that I may fall through it while I'm in the shower. But at least it's inside the house and I need to keep reminding myself that when the house was first built, the wash house was in the backyard and the toilet was a dunny at the end of the footpath at the end of the yard. This is luxury!

Who's there :)

Settlement day today! Feels very surreal after staying with my parents for the last 6 weeks. Their house is ginormous and it feels like this little house would fit into the family room ;)
So we picked up the keys and went on up to have a look (as you do). The old lady we purchased the house from was still there as she had been finishing off clearing up. She moved into a nursing home between our first and second looks through the house which would have been 4 months ago now and I guess she hadn't spent much time there except for the last couple of weeks trying to get things done. It felt a bit awkward but we had a chat and she told me she had been there for 25 years. She showed us her pond and where the fish food was so we could feed her babies. Her taxi showed up not long after and after she left we went inside.
The kids went feral crazy running around and ripped a bedroom door from its hinges! I was less than impressed that we had owned the house for an hour or so and they had already busted something but on closer inspection it was barely hanging on anyway as the jamb had split long ago.

Have no idea where this is going to fit so it will be into storage for the majority of our stuff until we can get the man-shed built.

Have to keep feral children from trying to conquer it all the time. I'm losing my mind!

Our new abode!

Several things made this house feel like the one for us. We looked at many houses in the area but this one felt comfortable if that makes sense.
The land is a great size 1/4 acre block with rear lane access (perfect for the man's shed). It has some great features. The front entry is beautiful with side lights and cricket bat panel door. It also has a pressed tin ceiling which im hoping is original and not repro added in the 80's. It has a few additions that will need to go, including the poxy aluminium cladding and the verandah (featuring leaky box gutter) which looks like it was added in the 60's. Our pre purchase inspection revealed that it is need of re-blocking so we negotiated a price reduction to help fund that. Besides that its clean and very much able to be lived in right away so we'll be moving in as soon as we settle. Right now we are tying up the ends from the sale of our current house and packing like crazy! Great excuse for a clean out as after 7 years we have a whole lot of stuff we don't need.
